REminute- Things to Consider When Buying an Older Home

Especially when purchasing an older home, there are two things that you are going to want to make sure you don’t skip!

I love the charm of a well-maintained, vintage craftsman – Large covered front porches, built-ins, & stained glass. However, not all homes are as well preserved where it really counts; behind the scenes.

Pluming and electrical problems could cost thousands. A cluttered, damp crawlspace can attract vermin and mold. What are all these water stains in the attic from??

Having a licensed professional take a thorough look at the ins and outs of a property before you make that commitment could really be a lifesaver.

An inspector will travel into the depths of a house and give you the 411. If there is something baffling or concerning, an inspector will let you know exactly which type of expert you should contact next to really delve into the potential issue.

A general inspector does not perform a sewer scope, however. This is where the second critical tip comes into play- Make sure to have a licensed video pipeline inspection company run a camera through the main sewer line of the home. You will be able to see the condition of that line, which could cost thousands if not properly maintained.

Basically, don’t skimp on those inspections! Even when no concerns arise, a few hundred dollars is worth that piece of mind.
